Alex’s visit home!

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:57 pm by dwin

So many people have been so excited that visits with Alex have been extended to longer periods.   We are even more excited that he was able to come “back home” for a week, and everybody wanting to know how it went.

Well let me tell you, IT WAS GREAT! Not only for us but Alex had the best time doing lots of tings he has not done before, or at least that he recalls.  Jumping off the dock and playing in the sand and waves in fresh water lakes is something new to him, and he took full advantage of finding rocks and skipping them across the water. He even found a few that impressed him so much he wanted to take them home and add them to big brother Kevie’s rock collection. Grandpa also took him fishing and he caught his first small mouth bass, can you imagine how happy this made him?  Very exciting for everyone for sure! He won his bet with grampa’s for a dollar to the first to catch a fish. He proudly showed everyone the dollar for the rest of the day and carried it around in his fishing vest! He was absolutely thrilled with the “big yellow” bike that a friend gave to him and headed down the driveway immediately on it with the biggest smile on his face. Having a fire and making smores was another highlight of his visit, which in his words was ” the best taste ever gramma!” I think so too, Alex! YUMMMM! We put up swings in the old walnut tree and spent LOTS of time “hanging” there, Alex & Kendallyn truly loved swinging in the breeze! The weather was just as perfect as it could be for the entire week.   God truly knows every hair on our head, our plans, and what our needs are. Another of Alex’s favorite activities, actually the best according to him, was motorcycle riding!  Although he said  ” Uncle Justin” had taken him for rides a couple of times before, just down the street.  This was new to him in that, first of all, we wear helmets, something they did not do in Texas (no helmet law). We went on a few wonderful rides around the area, stopping at Chief Hazy Cloud park on Pettis.  There Alex found some clams along the river bank. Also a trip to Townsend Park, what a great place to play!  Alex is a natural, riding is something he really likes to do!  We also had a birthday party for Aunt Katy Jo that he helped set up for and made birthday cards for her and his sisters. Contemplating this visit was indeed stressful, considering Alex’ caregiver would not be very cooperative in our planning and would not agree with arrangements until the last days before and we were not sure  she would be there for him to be picked up until the day before. Her daily comments to him discouraging his time with us was equally cruel, for Alex, but she did not succeed in anything but being annoying. Alex had such a great time he said he could not wait to come back again with so much enthusiasm and love, hugs and plans for what we could do. His behavior in the beginning was a bit aggressive and he had trouble telling the truth about simple things, but then we had to take in to account that he has lived with a very violent murderer and constant lies for all of his life so far, this will all change in a few short months. We did teach him that hands are for hugging and not for hitting (thanks Ms. Julie)and he did learn that it was okay to  go outside and play rather that sit in front of a TV and play video games for hours!  The hardest part of this visit was the court order of no contact  between Alex and his brother, Kevin and his sisters, Brittany and Jocelyn, until after the trial. Alex does not know his dad is in jail awaiting trial for the first degree premeditated murder of his & Kevie’s mother, our beautiful sweet girl, and the court was concerned that the kids would unintentionally make a comment about it to Alex. The time will come soon enough that these children will be united once again. Thanks for all the prayers and love you have all sent, keeping us strong and faithful through all of this. While Alex’s caregiver continues to ignore our phone calls to him and tries to cut off his contact with his family, we pray for her to let God back into her heart and kick Satan out. That is up to her, whom she chooses to follow.
